I enclose the word transfer in quotes, because the files don't actually move from one drive to the other, but are copied so you have the same files on both drives. OR, if you need to "transfer" files from the PowerMac to the PowerBook, sit at the PowerBook with the PowerMac's hard drive icon on the PowerBook's desktop and double-click the PowerMac's hard drive icon (thereby opening the the drive) and navigate to the files you want to transfer and "drag and drop" them onto the PowerBook's desktop (or where ever on the PowerBook you choose). Is it really necessary to get the PowerBook's hard drive to appear on the PowwerMac's desktop? Just as long as the PowerMac's drive appears on the PowerBook's desktop, you can sit at your PowerBook and "drag and drop" files into the PowerMac's drive and the files are "transferred" from the PowerBook to the PowerMac. (Is that still the case with G4 machines?) And yes, Appletalk and file sharing need to be turned on. The only critical thing was the cable had to be a crossover cable, otherwise, no go. I plugged the ethernet cable into each machine, then booted. I was doing it with two older Power PCs (72). You can’t transfer files remotely from one machine to another one. Before you start, make sure both systems are on the same network. The next solution as long as you have a home network is to transfer files between Windows and Mac through the network.
